The Hunt for Gainful Employment . . .

When it comes to finding a job in this terrible economy, I sometimes feel like Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October.

In the film, the Central Intelligence Agency’s best analyst is tasked with finding a missing experimental nuclear submarine, the USSR’ Red October, by trying to ascertain the nature and motives of its hard-nosed Latvian captain Marko Alexandrovich Ramius (played by the legendary Sean Connery). The depths (no pun intended) Ryan must go to in order to make contact with Ramius and eventually bring in the high-tech piece of naval machinery are, at times, inconceivable but nonetheless entertaining. (I won’t ruin the rest of the movie for you because it’s a really great film.) Continue Reading…

A Start of Something New . . .

Recently, I watched a series on Netflix that inspired me to become a more active participant in my life.

Originally airing on the BBC in Great Britain and PBS here in the United States, Sherlock follows everyone’s favorite British detective and the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character as he solves the most difficult crimes facing Scotland Yard in the modern era. Gone are the horse and buggy, ascots and bowler hats. Instead, Sherlock, and his faithful companion Doctor John Watson, employ text messaging, camera phones and taxi rides while delving into their criminal investigations.

But it was one modern addition to the show that resonated with me most - - namely the web blog.
